Chart

Only good quality data are accepted within the database. Data must offer the same requirements as the Quaternary pollen records: (1) botanical pollen identification, (2) high pollen countings, (3) high-resolution sampling. A threshold exists within the database and separates acquired data before and after 1984: since 1984, pollen countings and resolution in sampling have been noticeably increasing. Philosophy of the database aims to promote and protect purchase of high-quality pollen records.

Conditions for providing data and using the database

- Each scientist providing his pollen data (under the above mentioned conditions about quality) to the database will have (1) free access, through the Curator, to the all the data included in the database (pollen analyses and climatic estimates, bio-chronostratigraphy, etc.), on the understanding that they are published, and (2) free subscription to the PHOTOPAL database (photographs of modern pollen grains including information on plants, detailed morphological pollen descriptions, system for pollen identification), presently distributed on CDRom, shortly available on a website.

- Publications, based on the use of the database for any type of topics [syntheses, transfer functions (paleoclimate, paleoreliefs, paleovegetation maps), vegetation reconstruction, biodiversity, etc.] will associate the authors of the pollen data as co-authors (or "C.P.C. members" in the case of a large number of pollen records).

- The EEDEN (ESF Programme) contributors will have free access to the database after agreement by the Curator, and facilities will be offered to the NECLIME Programme participants.
