MEDIAS Network Web Server

EDIAS network server, which gives access to the directory of its members and presents the activities of the GIP1 MEDIAS-FRANCE has just been upgraded. This new release is being tested.
The main revision concerns the presentation: among others, access time has been optimised and ergonomics has been improved.
The modifications mainly enabled to gather information, to avoid duplications and to enable the user to access the various parts of the server with the fewest operations.

Another important part of this updating is the porting of the directory of the network members in ACCESS to the new database management system POSTGRESQL, which is being used at MEDIAS from now on.
This will make easier the updating of this database.
For this purpose, updating procedures combined with a user-friendly interface have been developed.
From now on, the administrator will perform his updating operations by connecting himself directly via Internet to the MEDIAS site.

The consulting functions regarding the users remain unchanged; the functions for internal use by the GIP MEDIAS-France have been enhanced (new means of sorting, more accurate searching function, etc.).
The procedures of registration to the file have also been modified. In particular, the new presentation explains to the user the details for registration, specially the obligation to send a signed document to MEDIAS by surface mail. Numerical information are automatically transmitted; however, they are integrated only upon reception of the agreement.

It will be possible to re-use the developed tools in the scope of other projects, such as the designing of the RICAMARE network directory described in an article of of this letter.
