Strategic Choices of the Project
Based on the thorough state of the art, our project aims at:
- tackling the repetitive aspect of large wild fires, in a natural region in which no such study was ever conduced,
- using a very integrated approach dealing on the same plots with a great number of components of the environment. This approach will enable to assess with pertinence biodiversity at several key levels of the ecosystem (flora, soil fauna, bacteria), and to establish the functional links between this biodiversity and physico-chemical characteristics of the environment.
Simultaneously, this work will permit the assessment of the particular impact of fires of the 2003 summer, which occurred in out-of-the-norm conditions of soil and vegetation dryness, and which intensity went beyond the limits ever known.
